Trail Wave

Location:  Trail, Columbia River.

Directions:  400 metres west (towards Trail) from the turnoff to the mall.    Park in the turn out, or take the small high clearance/4 wheel drive access road under the Highway sign down to the put in.

What you will find.....  This is where you will find Dragan and Jim on just about any nice day. Depending on the water level, it's a World class hole or surfing wave. BIG whirlpools on the east/south end of Rock Island. Depending on the water level, almost always something to play with somewhere along this section. But be careful at some water levels with your new carbon fibre, bent shaft, multi faceted, custom painted kayak paddle..... it'll eat em up....:>)).   Lots of folk swim here due to the swirlies and eddies after the wave/hole, but the river is clear and the biggest danger is from US border patrol picking you up as you pass by the Waneta Customs Post.

Best Time(s) of Year/Grade:  Unfortunately, winter is the best time for this wave/hole. Best levels (under 3.8metres) generally occur in January through March, but you can sometimes get lucky into April. Class 2-3

Late spring and summer levels of 6.5-7 metres will provide thrills and chills on "Stacks (river left of rock island) and industrial" holes (river left, first hole/eddy line).  One shot wave appears at approximately 6.0 metres and is located 150 metres downstream of Rock Island.
