Subject: This Forum is MOVING to KAYAKWEST
ATTN all Borderline Boaters forum users:

We are in the process of moving this paddler's forum to the Kayakwest forum site as part of an initiative to better unify paddlers in BC in order to accurately represent our river use activity? Not to mention, put everyone's chatter under one roof, using their club and or region to distinguish them? Three other clubs (including ours) are currently active on the Kayakwest site.

Any thoughts?

Background:
Borderline Boaters Club (West Kootenays) is treating this as an important strategic move in terms of documenting river use activity within our province as recent amendments to the NWPA will forever threaten our rights to navigation throughout this province.

The most important part is just getting the message out to paddlers in our respected regions that it has become important to log active river user data for all (notably Transport Canada) to see now. Hence the importance of having and using the river log section on the Kayakwest site.
Our club has been keeping one online as well, but to have a single site hosting this all under one roof works the best.

Another important note:
A few weeks ago, representatives from Borderline Boaters and Calpaddle (Calgary) met with John Mackie (Transport Canada - TC) as a step towards getting real-time gauges on Spillimacheen (rockies) and Pingston Creek (Monashees). The reps had set up a poll on Calpaddle and asked for input on use of these rivers and gave a short presentation on Pingston Creek that included some of the information gathered. It was a bit of an eye opener for TC as they had no grasp of how much use Pingston received. When they presented the data to TC they were told that it was exactly the kind of information they needed.

In light of the speed that IPPs are invading the province of BC and the just passed changes to the NWPA, we realize that this isn't just about 2 rivers.
We need this information province wide, even Canada wide if one should be so willing to set it up.
Since then there has been an idea of building a nation wide database to collect river user information but I believe we already have the framework right here with Kayakwest.

How to break down your river log entry:
-date
-river
-section
-grade
-flow (cms) or level (low-high, meters etc)
-number of paddlers in group (or names)
-river hazards (new, removed)
-access conditions (any changes etc)
-swims etc.

Please Note:
Begin breaking river log entries into region specifics (North Coast, Central Northwest, Thompson, Cariboo, Rockies, East/West Koots...???) also helps keep entries from getting cluttered?

Further info could include:
Google map link,
River summary (similar to playak/kayakwest and of course any photos, video etc)

Not sure how much Kayakwest can accommodate just yet though.
Any other ideas/comments?

(Most of this were thoughts and ideas previously posted between Lianne, Mikkel, Carl, Chris, Randy, and many more)

Yours in liquid,
Carl Jacks
